How to work with a Dark Goddess? What are the qualities of the Dark Goddess? How to work with Dark Goddess energy?

There is a LOT of “Dark Fluff” out there…

Amid a decade of bashing the “Love and Light” crowd, a new, equally shallow and problematic approach emerged! Known as “Dark Fluff,” this approach for “Darkness” for the sake of “Darkness” and instigating fear as a method of “testing” a would-be Witch’s resolve weakens Spiritual practices and traditions every bit as much as the “Good Vibes Only! Positivity or Bust! Love and Light!” approach.

Goddesses such as Hekate, The Morrigan, Lilith, Kali, and others bear the brunt of the “Dark Fluff” approach.

These Goddesses receive an overblown focus on their more sensational or rumored attributes, while their complicated, nuanced histories, and stories are largely ignored. This leaves people who are drawn to these Deities often feeling confused or even frightened to build a spiritual relationship with them.

Below, I’ve listed three popular opinions along with three unpopular realities:

Popular Opinion: “Dark Goddesses only have reputations for being terrifying because of Patriarchy”

Unpopular Reality: Goddesses associated with death, warfare, and realms unknown are terrifying because those things are terrifying.

Patriarchy didn’t create fear of those things. And hating on Patriarchy (while totally valid in its own right) doesn’t erase a Goddess’s legacy of patronage over terrifying aspects of life.

Popular Opinion: “ Before you begin a Dark Goddess Spiritual Practice, you must be ****ready.*** ”

Unpopular Reality: You don’t need to be “ready” (it’s not a real thing, anyway!)

If someone tells you that you need to be “ready” but doesn’t offer specific tasks to complete in order to validate “readiness,” they are only gate-keeping. There is no objective “readiness.” You simply need to be willing.

Popular Opinion: “You must feel a ***Call*** from a Dark Goddess before you can begin a practice with them, and that call is powerful and irresistible.”

Unpopular Reality: There is no objective ***Call*.

Some people do have powerful, spirit-shaking experiences that draw them to a Goddess. Some only a middling interest. Most people fall somewhere in between. All “calls” are valid. Even a simple curiosity in a Dark Goddess means they have something to teach you.

“Dark Fluff” isn’t just irritating. It can be harmful to a person’s spiritual journey.

But here is the good news…it does NOT have to be this way!

Building a deep, authentic relationship with a “Dark Goddess” does not have to be complicated or scary. Nor does it mean embracing an artificial aesthetic. These magnanimous Deities who have held patronage over the greatest challenges and mysteries of lived experience for thousands of years still have things to teach us.
